Wednesday.comm

What is wednesday.comm?

This is our new Wednesday evening format, and it’s for everyone! We have planned an exciting range of class styles and topics.

When is wednesday.comm?

Well, Wednesdays of course! Adult groups will meet between 6 and 8 pm. Some classes will meet for one hour starting at 6 pm, some will start at 6:30 or 7 pm, and some may even run the whole two hours. Children’s programming will be 6-7 pm with childcare available 7-8 pm.

Why wednesday.comm?

Do you attend a worship service on Sunday but feel like you could be doing more to grow spiritually? When you come to church, do you see faces you recognize, but feel like you don’t really know many people or haven’t really connected with anyone? Wednesday.comm is a chance for the people of St. Luke to gather in small groups and learn how to be more like Christ. This is a great opportunity for relationship-building and discipleship!

Wednesday.comm Meals
Food and fellowship are important parts of community night at St. Luke. Meals will be prepared by groups within our church to raise money for a project or mission of their choice. The food will be served from 5:30-7:00 p.m. in the Café, $5 per plate (sharing allowed!). Watch the bulletin each week for information about the group preparing the meal and the menu.

We are excited to offer a wide range of classes. If you plan on taking a class, please contact the facilitator or sign up in the Connection Center. We ask that participants cover the cost of their books if possible. If financial assistance is needed, please contact the facilitator or Nora Conner at nconner@stlukeumc.org. Unless otherwise marked classes start January 25.

6:00-7:00 – Christianity and World Religions

Facilitator: Wendell Barnett, marwen2@insightbb.com, 293-1490

Description: Christianity and World Religions is an exploration of four major world religions- Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, and Islam, and it compares each with our Christian faith. Our goal is to find positive ways to share our faith in an increasingly diverse world. This study is based on the book, Christianity and World Religions: Wrestling With Questions People Ask, by Adam Hamilton.

6:00-7:00 – Family and Parenting Study

Facilitators: Jessica and Stephen Wells, jwells@lexumc.com, 278-1286

Join this group of parents of young children as they look at ways to be better parents. This spring they will use the book, The Parent Adventure, by Rodney and Selma Wilson and Scott McConnell. It describes ways of using the Bible, not our personal experiences, to guide us in parenting. It also encourages "future focused parenting," meaning remembering that our children belong to God and our ultimate goal is to point them towards Him as they become more and more independent in their choice making.

6:00-7:00 – Environmental Stewardship: Through God’s Eyes and Your Actions

Facilitator: Pat Henderson, patsayspeace@yahoo.com, 373-8294

Description: This study takes a look at what each person’s role is in well managing the resources they’ve been given by God. Discussions will focus on ways we can be better stewards of God’s creation and include practical tips for living a life that reflects a commitment to environmental responsibility.

7:00-8:00 – Reinhold Niebuhr: Twentieth-Century Theologian

Facilitator: Kevin Walters, Kevin.walters@uky.edu, 260-8501
Description: This group is designed for those who would like to participate in an in-depth discussion of Reinhold Niebuhr's writings.  Niebuhr was one of the leading public theologians in mid-twentieth century America who wrote a great deal about what it means to live as a Christian in the modern world.  Niebuhr became well-known for encouraging Christians to think theologically about politics.  For its 25th anniversary issue in 1948, Time magazine featured
Niebuhr on its cover.  More recently, politicians on both the right and the left have invoked Niebuhr’s legacy.  The study will be based on Dr. Robin W. Lovin’s book, Reinhold Niebuhr.

7:00-8:00 – The Top Ten List for Christians

Facilitator: Harun Gatobu, hgatobu@stlukeumc.org, 269-4687

Description: In this study by James Moore, we will explore God's priorities for Christian living. We will also discuss uplifting ways to live each day with faith, hope, love, joy, and commitment.

Chancel Choir Practice time: 7:00-8:30 p.m.
Open to all who like to sing. Childcare provided.

SLUMY is offering options for youth.

Youth Wed.comm classes from 6:00-7:00:

Crazy Love: Last year the youth began a study of the book Crazy Love by Francis Chan.  The book talks about the love that God has for us and what our response to that love is.  The book's intention is to lead its readers away from "lukewarm Christianity" towards true intimacy with Jesus.

Puppets: Another option for youth is the puppet ministry led by Carol Pinkston.  This is a great creative outlet for our youth and a way for them to spend some time in Christian fellowship while learning the art of puppetry!

Children's Activities   time 6:00-7:00 p.m.
Pre School B- 5th grade Kids' Choirs and "Messy Situations from the Bible" (K-5 please bring towel and change of clothes). Additional childcare after 7:00 p.m. if parent is taking a class.
